Welcome to our page!

I began this site as a way to tie everything together for Wholehearted Writing. We’ve got a Facebook page, a Meetup group, and now this page.

Here on the blog, I’ll post my thoughts and contemplations about writing and what it means to be a writer. I will also post calls for submissions and contest information, as I receive them.

I have facilitated a writing practice group since 2004. During our meetings, we discuss the topic at hand, and then we write. Usually we have three rounds, with a prompt, question, or assignment at the beginning of each round, and we write for 10 minutes at a time. Sharing afterwards is optional (but encouraged!).

If you’ve been searching for a supportive tribe of writers so you can learn and grow in your own writing, this is the place for you!

If you are searching for a critique group, this is *not* the right place. We do not specialize in critique, although many other groups in Dallas do exactly that.

We are actually dedicated to the practice of writing. Not just any writing, though; we seek honest, true, and wholehearted writing. (The name “Wholehearted Writing” stems from Brené Brown’s book, The Gifts of Imperfection.)

The focus of our meetups is the practice of writing in a supportive, engaging, and fun environment. We learn and apply a variety of tools and methods to get you writing. Then, you get to try those tools on your own and see what happens!

I believe there is room for every writer. The key is to find your true writing voice. No one can take it away, no one can have exactly the same writing voice you have, and no one can say what you need and want to say (in exactly the way you’d say it). Write on!
